The Women's Building

Since 1971, San Francisco Women's Centers has represented, and been guided by, the belief that all women and girls have the right to safe, joyous and creative lives. In 1979, the organization purchased The Women's Building, creating one of the first women-owned community centers.

Our mission is to provide women and girls with the tools and resources they need to achieve full and equal participation in society.

Every day at The Women's Building:

Women can take care of themselves and their families by using our social services.
The well-being of women and girls is improved by our social justice advocacy.
Community Groups, including our In-House Organizations, strengthen their community work by interacting and partnering with us and each other in a vibrant, socially progressive and affordable space.

Each year we welcome over 20,000 women and their families, and connect them with social services, community-involvement opportunities, and arts, wellness and educational events.

For the women coming to the building, it is convenient to have this many services in one building. In addition, they are not stigmatized by the crisis they may be experiencing when they come to this building which offers, not only services for survivors of violence and sexual assault, but also exercise classes, political meetings and community celebrations.

We continue to focus on women and girls, because, even here in San Francisco, women and girls still face gender-specific barriers and hardships. We are committed to our vision because strong women and girls are critical for strong families and communities.

Wednesday from 4:30 - 6:30pm. This service provides a creative, personal and non-litigation forum for getting informal answers and creative solutions to legal questions, problems, and conflicts on most kinds of legal matters and questions that arise every day for ordinary San Franciscans
