Gloria Steinem
Dearest Marta, I'm back from my sojourn at the women's writing retreat, peacefully (or not) going through my mail -- and suddenly I came upon your and Tatjana's note about the Women's Building Mural. Even more than other early feminist art events like Judy Chicago's Woman House, which also blew my mind (until then, I didn't know we, too, had symbols), the colorful welcoming embrace of that building made me understand what could be. I never once imagined being on it -- not until I read what you sent. I don't think this would have happened were you not there with your generous heart. I hope you know how very much it means -- and all the more so as my age advances and surprises me. I thank you so much -- and please thank Kerry, too. with love and gratitude, Gloria
