Nadia Grosfoguel-Mejía Nadia Grosfoguel-Mejía was born on March 30, 1982 in Puerto Rico. She is the daughter of Teresa Mejia, Executive Director of the Women’s Building, and Ramon Grosfoguel, professor of Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley. Nadia moved to the United States at 8 years old and started living in San Francisco three years later. She was an only child until a few years ago and she now has two half-siblings, Nura, 5 years old and Elias, 3 years old. Nadia graduated from Lowell High School and completed her bachelors at UC Santa Cruz, during which she spent a semester abroad in France. She is currently in her last year of the Masters in Social Welfare program at UC Berkeley. She is interested in how health and mental health disparities affect communities of color. For the last four years, Nadia has also been working as a paralegal in immigration law. Nadia’s passion is travelling; she has been to Turkey, France, Spain, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Virgin Islands, and Martinique. She also enjoys reading The New Yorker, working out, cooking, camping, and being a big sister to her siblings.
