The
Women's Building Mural This spectacular mural is a culmination of a multi-cultural, multi-generation collaboration of seven women artists, and a colorful work of art that sings to our community. The mural was painted in 1994 by Juana Alicia, Miranda Bergman, Edythe Boone, Susan Kelk Cervantes, Meera Desai, Yvonne Littleton and Irene Perez, and many helpers. Covering two exterior walls, Maestrapeace is as educational as it is inspirational and serves as a visual testament to the courageous contributions of women through time and around the world. The design of the mural is the end result of a year and a half of brainstorming and planning by a broad range of community organizations and individuals. The theme has many messages: the healing power of women's wisdom over time, the contributions of women throughout history, and the making of history by women from all corners of the earth.
Additional elements used in the overall design are fabric patterns from throughout the world. Pick up a key to the individuals and symbols of the mural when you visit the Building and learn about the lives and traditions of these diverse peoples. You'll
also have a chance to take a piece of the mural home with you after
your visit: there are notecards, postcards, and T-shirts for sale,
emblazoned with images of the vibrant exterior of the Building. We
have numerous products designed after the vibrant and empowering mural
covering the outside of TWB. Visit our reception area to view the
